These are the ravens of my soul,
Sloping above the lonely fields
And cawing, cawing.
I have released them now,
And sent them wavering down the sky,
Learning the slow witchery of the wind,
And crying on the farthest fences of the world.
~William Everson

My paintings seek to translate story, myth, and truth from the formless realms of mystery into the tangible world, drawing deeply on animal medicine, anthropomorphism, and the archetypal wisdom of our natural allies. Through this work, I invite viewers to step beyond rational thought and reconnect with the guidance of the animal kingdom, opening space for joy, grace, wonder, and personal alchemy. Based in the Gold Country of Northern California since the turn of the century, I am continually inspired by the region’s landscape and animal life, whose presence shapes both my art and daily life.

Process

I start by working the surface with palette knives, laying down a textured underpainting in black, white, and a range of grays. Onto this rough ground, I brush on thin layers of color, letting each glaze settle and build slowly so the eye blends the hues naturally. The process stays alive and responsive, leaving room for surprise and inviting the viewer into the making of the painting.
